Fascinating football history uncovered from one of our sites

With football fever in full flow and England due to play a World Cup match this evening, we thought we’d share these fascinating old photos of football teams from Bromborough Pool Village, one of our sites…

The first picture is from 1905, while we don’t know the date for the second picture. We know both pictures are of Bromborough Pool football teams, probably made up of employees of Prices Patent Candle Factory – Prices established the village and located its factory there.
 
As you may know, one of our main locations is Bromborough Pool Village and we enjoy exploring the history and heritage of this fascinating model village. The village was built on the premise of “religion, horticulture, education and sports.”
 
So, in the first photo, the team appear to be standing next to Giles Shirley Hall, with St Matthew’s church spire visible in the background – two locations that now house Autism Together services.
 
We now own and look after these two listed buildings, along with another building in the village – the former school house. We’re asking for help to support their maintenance and development, by playing our Heritage Lottery.
