Frequently Asked Questions

Support Workers provide person-centred care and support to autistic individuals, helping them live fulfilling lives. This includes assisting with daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring emotional and physical wellbeing.

No formal qualifications are required, and full training is provided. However, a genuine interest in supporting autistic people, patience, empathy, and good communication skills are essential.

Autism Together offers comprehensive induction training, including autism awareness, safeguarding, communication strategies, and practical care skills. Ongoing professional development is also encouraged.

Support Workers typically work shifts, which may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Full-time, part-time, and flexible roles may be available depending on the service.

You’ll be part of a supportive team, though some roles may involve working one-to-one with individuals. Collaboration with colleagues, families, and other professionals is key to delivering high-quality care.

Autism Together supports career growth through training and qualification support, including management training and development programmes. Many Support Workers progress to senior roles, office support roles or management.
