Built between 1853 and 1858 for the workers of the nearby Price’s Patent Candle Company candle factory, the village was created as a pioneering example of industrial philanthropy; providing quality housing, green spaces and community facilities for employees and their families. Predating the nearby Port Sunlight by several decades, Bromborough Pool is recognised as one of the earliest and most important examples of an English industrial model village.
