Autism Together group give presentation to Manchester Uni students

A group of people we support recently gave a presentation to a class of 40 psychology students at the University of Manchester.

The team from Autism Together came together over a year ago to form the Unlocking Excellence group. The group consists of autistic adults and people with learning disabilities supported by Autism Together.

They are working with the NHS and researchers from CANDDID to co-produce a study which is focused on improving community-based mental health support for people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

Great work from Gina, Jake, Ken, Liam, Mike, Steven, and Tyler who spoke to the students about the importance of reasonable adjustments, one-page profiles, and easy-reads, and lots more besides.

The group also shared their own experiences of accessing NHS services, before leading sessions where they taught the students all about how to design a helpful one-page profile and an easy-read appointment letter.

The students commented positively, saying that the group did a wonderful job and that they really enjoyed the sessions. This is another huge achievement for the group, following on from hosting workshops at the ‘Advancing Care Through Research’ conference where they spoke to around 170 healthcare professionals.

Huge congratulations to all the group members.
